Building Black: The Lego Artist

Ekow Nimako is a lego artist from Toronto. From an owl the size of a Shetland pony to a life-sized, dreadlock-topped flower girl, his sculptures often take more than 100 hours to complete and up to 50,000 pieces to construct. But what drew us to Ekow’s story was both his enigmatic, philosopher-like character, and that through his work and workshops for children, he’s using Lego as a tool to educate about racism and black identity.
